Herding Nerds

Back from an outing with the Leadership Forum in IDA, the Danish Society of Engineers.

Some reflections started … As an engineer, what do I expect from the leadership I’m exposed to?

First reflections are

• EXCITEMENT – to be driven by excitement all around me – spiced up with a clear sense of purpose and direction
• ANCHORING – a clear scope and a strong connection with the organization/company/business
• FREEDOM – freedom to perform
• TRACTION – real opportunity to contribute on what is most important

This is what I would expect from my leadership – and probably that’s what herding nerds is all about.

In the old days it was all about ‘freedom under accountability’ … now it’s ‘freedom to exercise accountability’ .

In the old days it was all about ‘freedom under accountability’ (‘frihed under ansvar’) … now it’s ‘freedom to exercise accountability’ (‘frihed til at tage ansvar’).
