Very first thoughts on GCBs for project management

  • All projects are chaotic
  • Manage value, flow and operations (VFO-model)
  • Optimize productivity, not effectiveness
  • Only start, what you know you can finish
  • Reduce unpredictability by changing the time-perspective and reducing the need for precision

Traditional project management focus on critical path and operations – overlooking flow and value (check Koskela: The present understanding of PM is obsolete)

Typical 1/3rd of time is lost, 1/3rd is for preparation and 1/3rd is productive.

In the VFO model, optimizing F most often and easily leads to the best results
